In 1999 when we started building Spring
Creek Farm, our son, Ryan, inspired us to open a café inside the
General Store. Ryan, a cooking natural, always liked to please
everyone with great food, fun and happiness. In 2003, just before
Christmas, Ryan was diagnosed with a rare cancer, Osteosarcoma. He
had been misdiagnosed for about a year before we learned about this
cancer which eventually took his life. On December 11, 2008 at 21,
Ryan passed away leaving behind his own legacy. Fulfilling one of
his wishes, we have opened Son’s Café in honor and memory of Ryan.
Ryan wanted people to be educated about the disease that took his
life in hopes of helping to save another child. Through his
misdiagnosis, the importance of an early diagnosis is the message he
wanted to spread. He also wanted to help other kids with cancer to
have the opportunity to go to college. As a result, the Ryan L.
Mahoney Scholarship Fund was organized with Ryan’s counsel before he
passed away. To make a donation, please go to www.rlmmf.com.
Ryan will forever be missed. These are just
a few of the ways he lives on today sharing the life he lived with
all of us.
